Volunteer Opportunities

Community Involvement

Committee Involvement

TSHRM is always in search of members interested in advancing the HR profession and serving HR professionals through continuous improvement of TSHRM as a membership organization. The strength of our organization and the services that we provide comes from the contributions of many volunteers who, over the years, have contributed their time and talents in a variety of ways. TSHRM's members, who volunteer on the Board of Directors, committees and special projects, come to us from diverse backgrounds and bring unique skill sets.

Time Committment

Any amount of time you are interested in giving or able to offer is welcome. We often have seasonal projects such as helping to plan for the December Holiday Social. We also have special projects that are long term such as planning for the state conference . The time commitment will depend on the volunteer opportunity in which you get involved.

If you are interested in participating on a regular basis and can give a few hours of your time each month, you might be interested in one of our committees. For example, if you attend most monthly TSHRM lunch programs, you might be interested in joining the Membership Committee and being a greeter to welcome guests into the dining room. If you have contacts within local schools, you may be interested in helping on the College Relations Committee or the Workforce Development Committee. If you have a passion for legislation, our Legislative Affairs Committee may be right for you.

  COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Core Leadership Areas:

College Relations Committee

The College Relations Committee supports the establishment and maintenance of student programs at local colleges, universities and technical institutes. This committee is instrumental in providing students with networking opportunities with HR professionals as well as helping students gain experience in the HR field. We have the opportunity to interact with the HR Leaders of Tomorrow, and help advance the profession.

The College Relations Committee participates in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategies to maintain and expand student involvement including the establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with professional staff at the schools.

We identify professors and programs that can support and nourish students and student chapter membership and develop chapter leadership skills. Our goal is to develop and foster an on-going mentoring program involving student members and active TSHRM members and provide opportunities for student members to participate in TSHRM activities.

We are looking for committee members to assist in the activities and development of student chapters and identify and foster leadership and mentoring abilities and activities among faculty, students, and members of the student chapters. Contact the College Relations Director for more information.

Diversity Committee

The Diversity Committee serves two primary purposes for the organization. First and foremost, the committee is responsible for coordinating a chapter diversity program each year. This program is generally part of one of the monthly TSHRM meetings. In the past the programs have ranged from individual speakers to a mini diversity conference complete with a keynote speaker and smaller break-out sessions to an interactive discussion session on diversity-related topics.

Committee members may contribute to the program in a variety of ways including preparing handouts, arranging for speakers, coordinating AV needs for the program, etc. The second purpose served by the committee is to help keep the TSHRM chapter aware of current diversity trends and issues. Committee members may contribute articles on a variety of diversity-related topics to the TSHRM monthly newsletter. Contact the Diversity Director for more information.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to recruit and retain members. Primary responsibilities include coordinating member-related activities such as assisting with the annual membership renewal campaign, developing incentives for membership and retention initiatives, planning new member orientation, coordinating the volunteer recognition program and planning the annual holiday party.

Committee members may also contribute articles on a variety of membership-related topics to the TSHRM monthly newsletter. Contact the VP, Membership for more information.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee assists in developing and implementing strategies to provide information to TSHRM members on a regular basis. The Communications Committee is responsible for assisting with developing and editing the TSHRM newsletter and updating and maintaining the TSHRM website.  In addition, the Communications Committee serves as the voice of TSHRM for members and the public regarding TSHRM events and accolades through press releases. Contact the Communications Director for more information.
